The Mackinaw House and Saginaw Green Team Initiative

The Saginaw Green Team Initiative invited us to the "Go Green" event at City Council Chambers today, where we had the opportunity to talk with many city employees about the Mackinaw House! Quite a few people recognized the house from their commute to work or from driving around town. We are very grateful to Evelyn from the Saginaw Green Team for inviting us to share more about our project! We were also very excited that Bill got the chance to talk about the project with ABC News.

Trim is In

Take a look at our new photos from the Mackinaw House this week! Our crew has installed the trim and we have new appliances as well. The newly varnished floors are looking great, too!

Stay tuned for details on our open house. We have not set a date yet, but with the remodel moving along so well, it won't be long!

Coming into the Home Stretch!

A lot has been happening at the Mackinaw House this week! We are thrilled that our new tile and cabinets have been installed. We still need to install some appliances, but our kitchen is definitely looking like a kitchen now! We've also painted over the primer in the living room and upstairs bedrooms. Take a look at the pictures below to see our progress!

Cabinets are Here!

We have been making major progress on the the Mackinaw House this week! (So much is going on that the house is a little too crowded with crew to get photos of the interior.) Crews have been tiling, painting, installing, and just working hard in general.

We are especially excited to install the new cabinets and can't wait until we have a fully functioning kitchen. Stayed tuned for interior pictures!

Through the Storm...

We are hoping that everyone is safe and warm after this week's weather. The storm resulted in a snow day Wednesday for the Phoenix UR office. Fortunately, our hardworking crews had already made major progress at the Mackinaw House over the weekend and early in the week.

Those of you who have followed us from the beginning know that the inside of the house needed a lot of improvement. You will see from the photos below that we have begun making changes with a vengeance!

Braving the Winter

We've already seen quite a bit of snowfall this winter, and we're happy to see that the improvements we made over the summer are paying off.

For example, the air-sealing is protecting the Mackinaw House roof. If snow melts off your roof, there may be spots in your home leaking warm air to the attic or roof. Melting snow can accumulate on the eaves, forming icicles and causing ice damage. Weight from the icicles can build up and damage roof spaces.

As you can see from the pictures below, the Mackinaw House is well-insulated. The attic spaces are air-sealed, preventing snow on the roof from melting. (We'll have to wait for a sunny day for the snow to disappear!)
